I got my first bag of the chocolate Shakeology protein powder this week and decided to give it a try. I drink a protein powder smoothie almost every morning for breakfast since it’s fast and portable, so I substituted the Shakeology for my regular protein powder. My smoothie recipe is:
1 scoop protein powder
3 heaping tablespoons of avocado milk*
1/2 banana
frozen fruit
almond milk
I put all of the ingredients in my single serve blender and blend until it’s a smooth slushy consistency.
*Avocado milk is simply one avocado blended with 1 cup of almond milk. This keeps me from having to store, then use part of a mushy, brown avocado in my smoothie the next day.
I must admit, I was a little worried about how the Shakeology smoothie would taste since it smells decidedly “healthy” – which isn’t surprising because it is full of healthy ingredients. Anyway, it wasn’t too bad. It will take a little getting used to, like it would if I switched to any other protein powder. To help the transition, I’m going to make my smoothies for the next week with 2 tablespoons of shakeology and 2 tablespoons of my regular protein powder. After that I’ll use 3 tablespoons of Shakeology and 1 of my regular protein powder before finally switching to 100% Shakeology.
As far as results, at the beginning of the week I weighted between 128 and 129 pounds. My weight has been up since I came back from a vacation in Jamaica at the beginning of June and just didn’t seem to be budging. Now, a week later, my weight is down to 126.2 – almost back to my pre-vacation weight. I have to say I’m very pleased!
I’ll keep drinking the chocolate Shakeology for the next month and posting my thoughts and progress – although I really don’t expect to see much weight loss since my body seems to be happy and healthy around 125. After that, I’ll give the new vanilla flavor a try.
If you’re interested in trying Shakeology and would like to try a sample packet, let me know. Ditto if you’re ready to order.
